Academy of Art University is seeking an experienced Communications Center Dispatcher to join our Campus Safety team. Ideal candidates will have previous experience in a dispatch role with excellent verbal and written communication skills. The Communications Center Dispatcher should be able to work independently as well as part of a team.

This is a full-time role, working Monday through Friday, 11:00pm - 7:30am.

Responsibilities:

  • Receiving and assessing calls: Taking calls from the public, including emergency and non-emergency calls, and accurately gathering information about the incident.
  • Dispatching Campus Safety resources: Determining the appropriate response and dispatching Campus Safety personnel to the scene, considering factors like location, severity, and type of incident.
  • Maintaining communication: Staying in contact with Campus Safety units during the response, relaying information, and coordinating efforts.
  • Monitoring and tracking incidents: Monitoring radio frequencies, tracking the location and status of Campus Safety units, and keeping a record of incident details in the Campus Safety case management system.
  • Operating dispatch systems: Using computer-aided dispatch (CAD) systems, radio communication equipment, and other technological tools to manage calls and track resources.
  • Record keeping: Documenting all calls and incidents, including details about the caller, the incident, and the response.
  • Maintain inventory control of sensitive items: issue and track keys in the key log, print and activate University ID cards, maintain the Lost and Found inventory.
  • Exercise central control over building access and video systems: Monitor and operate Campus Safety CCTV camera systems, arm and validate building security alarms daily during each shift.
  • Cover after-hours customer support line: Answer the University general phone line and retrieve voice messages from callers after normal business hours and during weekends and provide message-taking services.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Compensation:

$20.50 per hour
