About the Role
We are seeking an experienced Project Engineer to join the construction team at Vance Brown. The Project Engineer will provide technical and administrative support to the Project Manager and Project Superintendent, helping ensure projects are delivered safely, on schedule, within budget, and to the highest quality standards.
This is a hands-on, field-based position requiring strong coordination with project managers, superintendents, subcontractors, owners, design teams, and vendors.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide technical and administrative support to the Project Manager and Superintendent throughout the project lifecycle.
- Assist with project planning, scheduling, forecasting, and project documentation.
- Review drawings and specifications and identify errors, omissions, and coordination issues.
- Manage project documentation, including RFIs, submittals, drawings, specifications, permits, and ASIs.
- Coordinate and track the submittal and shop drawing review process.
- Prepare and maintain accurate RFI and project document logs.
- Assist with project estimating, including quantity takeoffs, subcontractor bids, pricing, and bid documentation.
- Support procurement activities and identify critical long-lead materials and equipment.
- Coordinate with subcontractors, vendors, testing laboratories, utilities, and other project partners.
- Assist with change orders, including collecting pricing and coordinating approvals and distribution.
- Monitor project quality and work with the Superintendent and subcontractors to resolve issues.
- Support project safety documentation and coordination.
- Assist with monthly subcontractor billings, pay applications, and project progress reporting.
- Prepare and distribute project meeting minutes and maintain project records.
- Assist with project closeout, including punch lists, warranties, operating and maintenance manuals, permits, certificates of occupancy, and as-built drawings.
- Support the Project Team in resolving issues between owners, contractors, subcontractors, and other stakeholders.
What We're Looking For
- Bachelor's degree in Construction Management, Civil Engineering, Engineering, or a related field preferred.
- Previous experience working as a Project Engineer in commercial construction or a related construction environment.
- Strong understanding of construction documents, drawings, specifications, RFIs, submittals, change orders, and project schedules.
- Experience coordinating with subcontractors, vendors, field teams, and project stakeholders.
- Strong organizational and documentation skills with attention to detail.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet project deadlines.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, field-based construction environment.
- Proficiency with construction/project management software and Microsoft Office.
- Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to take initiative.
- Willingness and ability to work onsite and travel to project sites throughout the Bay Area.
- Must be comfortable working in a field-based construction environment.
