Our mission at Oura is to empower every person to own their inner potential. Our award-winning products help our global community gain a deeper knowledge of their readiness, activity, and sleep quality by using their Oura Ring and its connected app. We've helped millions of people understand and improve their health by providing daily insights and practical steps to inspire healthy lifestyles.

Empowering the world starts with living our values and empowering our team. As a quickly growing company focused on helping people live healthier and happier lives, we ensure that our team members have what they need to do their best work — both in and out of the office.

Oura is looking for an exceptional and experienced Staff Product Designer, Design Systems to help lead the vision, architecture, and long-term evolution of our design system. In this role, you will serve as a foundational design systems leader—setting direction, driving adoption, and ensuring our system scales with the company and product ecosystem. You will translate complex product and platform needs into intuitive, accessible, and high-quality experiences across all Oura surfaces.

You’ll partner closely with Product, Engineering, and Design leadership to enable feature teams with the tools, patterns, and guidance they need to build consistent, efficient, and delightful user experiences.

What you will do:

  • Own the strategy, architecture, and long-term evolution for critical parts of Oura’s design system, including component frameworks, interaction patterns, and visual foundations.

  • Help drive direction for our system evolution, bridging the gap between design and code and leaning into new AI workflows.
  • Partner with engineering to establish scalable, production-ready system foundations focused on native platforms.
  • Serve as a trusted advisor to design and product leadership on system-level decisions, patterns, and tradeoffs.
  • Set standards for governance, contribution models, and adoption, ensuring system quality and consistency across teams.
  • Lead cross-functional initiatives to improve governance, system performance, accessibility, and developer/design efficiency.
  • Evolve core foundations for typography, color, and spacing with optional focus to lean into illustration and iconography.
  • Help define and refine end-to-end workflows between design and engineering, including tooling, documentation, and handoff practices.
  • Coach and mentor product designers on systems thinking, raising the bar for craft and consistency across the organization.
  • Evangelize design systems internally through documentation, reviews, and education, building shared understanding and trust in the system.

This is a hybrid-remote role, with the expectation to work from our San Francisco offices at least half-time.

REQUIREMENTS

We would love to have you on our team if you have:

  • 10+ years of experience as a product or UX designer, with deep expertise in design systems and platform design.
  • A portfolio demonstrating ownership of large-scale design systems used across multiple teams and surfaces.
  • Experience designing for high-growth or mass-market mobile products, bridging design and engineering effectively.
  • Advanced mastery of Figma and related tooling, including components, variables, tokens, and library management.
  • Ability to quickly learn and adapt to new tools, having an understanding for how design systems are evolving with AI.
  • Strong technical fluency and comfort partnering closely with engineers on implementation details and constraints.
  • Proven ability to drive cross-team alignment and influence without authority.
  • Deep understanding of mobile design patterns, accessibility standards, and scalable UI architecture.
  • Exceptional communication skills with the ability to articulate vision, make tradeoffs, and build organizational buy-in.
