Convent Elementary & Stuart Hall for Boys are divisions within Schools of the Sacred Heart, San Francisco, serving girls and boys in grades K-8. We are seeking excellent candidates for the role of elementary Associate Teachers. The primary purpose of the Associate Teacher is to assist and support the Lead Teacher with classroom preparation, planning, instruction and student supervision. Associate Teachers are expected to develop their own teaching skills over time, while becoming an active member of the Sacred Heart community.
The Associate Teacher Program is a two-three year program that familiarizes the Associate Teacher with theoretical and practical aspects of classroom teaching. Associate Teachers are assigned to a grade and section in kindergarten - fourth grade and are partnered with a Lead Teacher who guides his/her development as an educator. They have the option to reapply once their three-year term is complete, but are not guaranteed placement. Agreements are reassessed and renewed (if appropriate) yearly. Associate Teachers are expected to attend all faculty meetings and periodic pedagogical workshops given on campus.

Duties/Responsibilities:
- Adheres to Employee Handbook guidelines
- Communicates appropriately and effectively with students (includes timely feedback regarding progress, assignments, exams, etc)
- Communicates appropriately and effectively with parents (includes information regarding curricular program, class-specific events, and timely feedback about student progress)
- Communicates appropriately and effectively with colleagues.
- Shares records of parent communication with appropriate administrator/supervisor in a timely manner
- Upholds professional standards of attire, punctuality, courtesy and discretion.
- Attends/participates in required faculty/grade level team meetings and school events.
- Attends/participates in professional development opportunities and integrates new learning into instructional practice.
- Participates actively in the ongoing review and development of K-12 curriculum
- Prepares for and conducts Parent Conferences, twice annually, and as appropriate
- Demonstrates awareness of various cultures
- Is knowledgeable of grade level curriculum/demonstrates subject-area expertise
- Recognizes and respects students’ individual learning needs
- Presents well-prepared and effective lessons
- Integrates the use of technology into class lessons and assignments

QualificationsTo be considered candidates should submit a resume and cover letter displaying their qualifications in the following areas:
- Requires an undergraduate degree and relevant classroom teaching experience is preferred.
- Masters degree and/or credential preferred.
- An interest in pursuing a career in education with excellent writing and communication skills with both children and adults.
- History of collegiality and collaboration with other teachers and administrators.
- Requires experience using a wide range of instructional technology tools including iPads, laptops, and Google Apps.
- Must be detail-oriented, organized and willing to take initiative.
- Must have excellent teamwork skills and the ability to work well with students and adults.
- Must be a role model in embracing and living out the Schools’ mission, goals and criteria.
- Must be a role model and maintain a high level of professionalism.
- Experience with independent schools is strongly preferred.
Physical Requirements include:
- Regularly lifting or carrying 1-20 lbs.
- Regular pushing/pulling/bending/stooping/kneeling.
- Regularly climbing stairs**
- Regularly sitting or standing 4-8 hours.
- Requires physical presence, work to be performed on campus**
- Requires the ability to tolerate and work in a loud and active environment
- Ability to travel 1-2 times per year.
