General Manager – TBD Izakaya (San Francisco)

TBD Izakaya is SF’s first modern izakaya centered on dry‑aged heritage‑breed chicken, live‑fire binchotan cooking, and a thoughtful sake program. We’re committed to excellence in sourcing, service, and guest experience. Now seeking a General Manager who shares that vision and will help define what this restaurant becomes.

The Role

Own the floor. You’ll lead daily operations, develop the front‑of‑house team, and partner with the culinary team to ensure every service reflects our quality and intention. This is a hands‑on leadership role for someone equally comfortable with a P&L and a pre‑shift.

Key Responsibilities 

- Lead, schedule, and develop a front‑of‑house team delivering warm, knowledgeable, efficient service 

- Oversee daily operations: staffing, inventory, financial reporting 

- Partner with the kitchen on menu evolution, service flow, and quality standards 

- Manage budgets, labor costs, and financial performance against profitability targets 

- Maintain compliance with health, safety, and regulatory requirements 

- Build a workplace culture that retains talent and holds a high bar 

- Handle guest feedback and service recovery with professionalism and care 

- Support marketing initiatives and contribute to community presence 

What We’re Looking For

- Proven experience as a General Manager or senior FOH leader in a full‑service, quality‑driven restaurant 

- Strong operational command: staffing, inventory, cost controls, financial reporting 

- Fluency with Toast, Restaurant365, and OpenTable 

- Genuine love for hospitality and Japanese food & beverage culture 

- A leader who leads by example, communicates clearly, and avoids unnecessary drama
