Position Purpose
This position is an Exempt, full time at the John N. Callander Administrative Office. This position is benefits-eligible.
The primary role of the Human Resources Specialist (Learning, Development & Compliance), is to lead the organization’s safety compliance, onboarding, and career development program. The goals for the position are to improve staff engagement and retention; identify and implement learning solutions that remove performance gaps; track staff's completion of key training (including BGCSF and BGCA Safety and Compliance requirements); support and develop career pathways; and support the Human Resources Department to market professional development in the hiring process and beyond.
Key Responsibilities
Onboarding & New Hire Orientation - 40%
- Coordinate and facilitate engaging new hire orientation sessions, ensuring employees feel welcomed and prepared for their roles.
- Facilitate, as required, Staff Integration.
- Facilitate manager orientation sessions, as needed, to introduce new managers to the expected leadership approach and to inform them of L&D expectations and opportunities.
- Ensure all onboarding documentation and compliance requirements (e.g., background checks, I-9s, work permits) are completed in a timely manner.
- Act as a resource for new employees, helping them navigate their first weeks at BGCSF.
Safety & Compliance - 30%
- Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local employment regulations, as well as Boys & Girls Clubs policies and procedures.
- Track all compliance training, generally focused on onboarding and required yearly training.
- Support safety compliance efforts, including tracking and coordinating mandatory trainings (e.g., CPR/First Aid, Child Safety, Mandated Reporter).
- Assist in implementing safety-related policies and procedures to foster a secure workplace and Club environment.
- Maintain compliance records and assist in audits related to employee safety and workplace policies.
Learning & Development (L&D) Support - 20%
- Support the development and execution of BGCSF’s employee learning and development programs.
- Create, lead, and or assist in the leadership of the strategic initiatives for the planning and execution of all-staff BGCSF professional development days.
- Assist in the development and maintenance of key metrics and statistics that will support HR leadership to customize learning opportunities for specific staff if/when required.
- Drive the career pathing program at BGCSF, guiding and supporting staff along their desired track by using learning metrics and analytics to measure the effectiveness of the learning solutions.
- Ensure BGCSF’s core values and organizational philosophies are incorporated into all learning and development activities across departments.
- Ensure adult learning principles and youth member focus are incorporated into training design.
- Regularly collect and share data on employee career development plans with HR, senior team, and Club management.
- Partner with department leaders to assess training needs and track employee participation.
- Administer the Learning Management System (LMS) and ensure accurate documentation of training completion.
HR Support - 10%
- Maintain accurate training records and reports to ensure compliance with all training requirements.
- Assist in the administration of performance management processes, including tracking performance reviews and professional development plans.
- Provide general HR support, including responding to employee inquiries, maintaining personnel files, and assisting with HR projects.
Required Skills
- 3+ years of HR experience, preferably in a nonprofit or youth development environment.
- Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university or equivalent experience
- Strong knowledge of HR best practices, learning and development principles, and compliance requirements.
- Experience coordinating and tracking employee training programs.
- Excellent communication and facilitation skills with the ability to engage diverse employee groups.
- High attention to detail and strong organizational skills.
- Ability to work collaboratively in a mission-driven environment.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Excellent interpersonal skills with drive and passion for the development of people
- Proven ability to influence and build relationships both within the organization and with external sources
- Strong facilitation skills
- Ability to work with minimal to moderate supervision
- Strong computer skills, specifically well-versed in Google Suite
- Ability to manage multiple projects concurrently

- Ability to manage and/or collaborate with other training resources
Preferred Skills
- Master’s degree preferred
- Familiarity with HRIS and Learning Management Systems (LMS) preferred.
- Ability to drive an automobile in CA
- A minimum of five years of work experience in a youth-serving non-profit organization

Pay
The wage range for this role takes into account the wide range of factors that are considered in making compensation decisions including but not limited to skill sets; experience and training; licensure and certifications; and other business and BGCSF needs. At BGCSF, our decisions are based on other factors and dependent on circumstances for each position. Depending on the need and requirement of the position, an individual could be hired at or near the entry-level, mid-level or top of the range for their role and compensation. As such, a reasonable estimate of the current range is $69k to $71k.
