We need a Software Engineering Manager to help Myriad Genetics, Inc. deliver innovative products that allow patients to make life-changing decisions. Our genetic screening and testing help to provide actionable insights to empower people to make critical and timely healthcare decisions by using molecular diagnostic tests for hereditary cancer, urological cancer, depression, and other diseases. We are excited about the future and remain committed to advancing the science of personalized medicine as we develop more products to address unmet medical needs.
The software automation team is responsible for building software tools to support our highly automated production sequencing lab. We work closely with hardware engineers and molecular biology scientists to build automated workcells using the most advanced industrial automation and lab automation equipment available. Our software supports the simultaneous processing of thousands of samples across multiple workflows and our workcells run 24/7.
For this position we have a strong preference for a Hybrid Office position in either our South San Francisco, CA or Salt Lake City, Utah locations. Your team and future hires will primarily be hybrid office in one of these locations. Our team is flexible on working from home, but we do need to go to the office to work with lab users and equipment for certain projects.
WHAT YOU WILL DO
Lead and Mentor: . Hire, manage, motivate, and mentor a small team of talented engineers. (4-6 direct reports estimated). Lead by example.
Own Technical Direction: Architect and implement LIMS integrations and laboratory software automation to support laboratory workflows for multiple products across multiple lab locations.
Collaborate Cross-Functionally: Partner with lab leadership, software managers, and engineers to deliver scalable solutions that meet lab needs.
Ensure Quality: Define technical specifications, enforce best practices in CI/CD, automated testing pipelines to reduce manual testing for integrations, and ship high quality code. Development of clinical products and pipelines requires validation; write and run validation plans with technical stakeholders.

ABOUT YOU
Management Experience: 1-2+ years leading engineering teams.
Hands-On Leadership: Proven ability to set technical direction, hit milestones, and motivate team am members.
Technical Depth: 4–6 years of professional Python experience with strong backend development focus (preferably FastAPI or django), experience in system, serverless and cloud architecture (AWS, k8s), production data pipelines, enterprise software engineering, and complex technical landscapes.
LIMS: Prior success with laboratory information management systems is a plus. Some experience working in life sciences and ideally have a genetics background of some kind.
Collaborative Mindset: Skilled at breaking down technical complexity for non-technical stakeholders and partnering with product managers.
Champion of Craft & Ownership: Advocates for good development practices, continuous integration, rigorous testing, and demonstrates high agency and accountability.
