Position Overview:

Responsible for assisting with assigning work to staff and day-to-day operations. Provides functional guidance and direction to the authorization staff. Maintains statistics for the department and ensures established turnaround times are adhered to. Reviews daily work volumes of the referral pools and distributes work accordingly. Reviews, modifies, and researches as directed to make recommendations to update policies and procedures to improve referral and authorization processing.

EDUCATION:
HS Diploma or General Education Diploma (GED)

TYPICAL EXPERIENCE:
4 years recent relevant experience.

SKILLS AND KNOWLEDGE:
Medical terminology, Current Procedural Terminology (CPT)/Healthcare Common Procedure Coding System (HCPCS)/International Classification of Diseases (ICD)-9 coding knowledge.

Knowledge of medical and insurance terminology as well as an understanding of healthcare insurance.

Knowledge of computers: Excel and Word proficient; and skill in the operation of other office equipment.

Organizational, interpersonal and verbal communication skills.

Able to apply principles of logical thinking to a wide range of intellectual and practical problems.

Ability to maintain strict confidentiality of all protected health information and display appropriate discretion concerning private information, including staff productivity.

Knowledge of insurance and governmental programs, regulations and application processes (e.g., Medicare, MediCal, Social Security Disability, Champus, Supplemental Security Income Disability, etc.), managed care contracts and coordination of benefits.

Pay Range is $35.14 to $43.91 / hour

The salary range for this role may vary above or below the posted range as determined by location. This range has not been adjusted for any specific geographic differential applicable by area where the position may be filled. Compensation takes into account several factors including but not limited to a candidate’s experience, education, skills, licensure and certifications, department equity, training and organizational needs.
